EES (Entry/Exit System) is a system established by the European Union to monitor the arrival and departure of citizens from non-EU countries traveling to the EU. The main goal of this system is to improve security, manage migration, and reduce visa abuse. The EES will come into effect on November 10th.
The EES provides a more secure way to check passports within the EU/Schengen area. Immigration rules, such as the 90-day stay, will not change, but their application will be easier. The system essentially eliminates passport stamps and allows for broader use of automated border crossings. The EES does not apply to EU/EEA citizens, including those with dual nationality. Citizens from non-EU countries who have a residence permit in one of the member states are also exempt from the rules, as are those who have the necessary visa to enter EU countries.
